Thanks for the suggestions...I'm not familiar with the hawthorne, but I will definitely check it out. I had heard the beta 40s a year or so ago at a Circuit City and was not all that impressed, but what a horrible environment to hear anything...and the monitor audio SR6 is on my shortlist, but I've been reading other people's opinions of them being too bright. They can be heard about an hour and a half from here... I live in South Jersey and it's purt near impossible to hear anything. I stopped in a store today to hear the paradigms. After finding a salesman, I requested an audition of their lower priced monitor series. No bass. I mean none. I ask if he has his integra receiver set for "small front speakers", hence no bottom. He gives me a blank stare and then tells me I need to hear the ones with a built in sub. I say OK, he switches over to them, and ...no bass! exactly the same. He looks at the speaker and then tells me..Well you need a separate sub for real bass. Sheeesh....it was no better at Best Buy where EVERYTHING sounded goddawful including the Martin Logan Montage...
Yes, do check out the Hawthorne Audio site, well informed fella's over there..OB fanatics, but for good reason..
Is that finally someone developed an OB full range driver that plays deep, low FAST bass and covers all the midrange and highs in a beautiful way...with a world class presentation.I wouldn't have said this 3 weeks ago, but now I can. The original posters speakers for comparison suck-ass compared to the SI's.
A few weeks back i spent several hours with a pair of VonSchweikert VR2's and was astounded by their bass performance. the SI's eat the VR2 for lunch...
Add to that the gargantuan 3-D soundstage and sweet-as-whipped honey mids and highs....
oh did i say they cost $300? probably $400 in total including speaker cables??
