reproduction.Cannot afford to go wrong. It is for a friend living in a far away country where good speakers are not available.Cannot return for another. No way of repairing or even servicing. My choice will be accepted but should have excellent female voice reproduction, especially high pitch singing. Not English.Bass not very important. Please suggest.I have one month to audition but cannot travel around much due to health problems..Your pick more important than my judgement.NHT?Usher? Epos? Infinity? Has to be new.Cannot take chances with preowned.I can write off the money but cannot let my friend down.Amp will be Cambridge Azur 540v2 and CD player also Cambridge.Room size 16x14x10.Big French windows, marble floor.Hot and Humid. No AC.Cane chairs. Thanks and Regards.
Regards

Sorry... That message number is not valid.
Is it by the same DCM Time Window guys? That was a famous speaker in the seventies.I heard it those days and found it mellow and polite.I like the emphatic way you have suggested this new speaker. It must be really good.Thanks.

Europas are intriguing. However, Jonbee has not owned Europas.

Hi, Search for author Jonbee. He has a lot of experience with high-end monitors, and there are several you should consider such as:http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue15/selahaudio.htm (his most recent recommendation I think, and only $950 retail!!!!!)
Merlin TSM-M (used on Audiogon)
Onix Reference 1
Monitor Audio GR10 (used on Audiogon)
Revel M20/M22 (used on Audiogon)You may want to contact him directly.
Good luck,
$995 factory direct. This is great little speaker. I can't think of anything better in the sub $1k class new. The cabinet is cast composite so it should be impervious to heat and humidity. The caveats are that these things are heavy (43 lbs each) so shipping could be a bite and I suppose it is at least theoretically possible that the driver surfaces could mildew in extremely humid conditions but that will be true of almost all speakers.
If we are talking Carnatic vocal music or any Indian classical or semi-classical they should work great. They need to be driven hard for at least the first twenty hours to break in the drivers. At lower volumes break in can take a long time.
I agree......great speaker for the money. I do believe they take a LOT longer to break in though. A LOT longer.
I will vouch for the Green Mountain Audio speakers too.I have used the same capacitors used in these and they really don't come into their own until something like 100 hours of playtime. I don't know why but I accept it. I have seen it over and over with those caps when I built a few copies of one of my DIY speakers for friends and family.
ps. I hear that one of the albums used for the final tweaking and voicing of GMA speakers is by Diana Krall. That's a nice female voice for sure.
That's smart, to use Diana Krall to tweak the speaker.GMA must be the one I am looking for.If it is direct order from the factory, how can I audition it? Wonder if they come for HE 2007 NY at Hilton.I want to play a CD of Lata Mangeshkar to check out the shrill voice.
In my experience the people at GMA are very helpful and accommodating. Call or email them and inquire about the Hilton show. They might be willing to send out an audition pair too. Just be mindful of the break in issues if the pair is brand new. Out of the box they can sound bass light and tilted up in response but once broken in they are both musical and fairly neutral, very neutral for a $1K speaker. GMA would also offer good advice on how they will work with the room and equipment in question. Roy Johnson is scrupulously honest, if he thinks there might be a problem he'll say so.
I am a Magnepan fan too but I would worry more about about their structural integrity (relative to the Europas) in the conditions you describe. Intense UV light is definitely not good for the mylar.
Thanks for the advice.I am undergoing a rest period and am asked to take it easy. Will explore GMA in the near future, hopefully.I guess the severe tropical Sun will act adversely on the mylar.
