A flashlight placed next to grill fabric will light up the driver(s) for a see-thru look, works best in a darkened room. KLH mostly used cloth surrounds in sealed enclosures, in which case no deterioration problem with the surround (a slightly lossy surround due to dried surround sealer is not an acoustic problem per Vance Dickason's *Loudspeaker Design Cookbook*; atempting to re-seal via silicone caulk or other risks permanent change that may be detrimental). If there are no screws for back panel removal, then the drivers MUST have been installed from the front. That means the grill panel is removable, albeit it may be spot-glued or nailed in place. In such event, a putty knife (common Hardware store item, ask a clerk if you do not know what this is) placed around the edges as a pry tool will eventually lift the grill loose. The wide blade of the putty knife spreads force to minimise veneer damage vs a tableware knife & a piece of cardboard between knife & cabinet edge cushions the veneer even more = no marks. Work your way compeletely around the edge gently several times until grill comes loose. Removing the woofer permits access to interior & replacement of tweeter high-pass capacitors if neccessary. Often failed-with-age electrolitic capacitors mimic blown tweeters. Re-seal woofer to cabinet with foam self-stick Door & Window weather stripping available at local Hardware stores in various widths & thicknesses. Visit the asylum Vintage forum catagory & search previous messages for the Classic Speaker Page www addy to discover KLH info.

The addy is/was www.classicspeakerpages.net but it does not seem to be working this AM. I visited this site within the past 2 weeks, so perhaps try later? Storms have lines down? Even my ISP/Google search feature will not connect.
And the pic of the model 10 appears as if woofer surround is foam.
I spent some time poking around their site and the forums there. The picture labeled KLH Model Ten is a different speaker from a later era(1980s?). I think this is a KLH Research Model Ten. I don't think mine has the ribbon tweeter. The original model ten seems to be from 1962-63 and is a two way ported design. I think most woofer surrounds were fabric then.RT Barr
