but here's my favourite with a valve amp under 4k$.
Naim Allaes.
A two way floor stander fit well within your room boundary.
Minimum 6 ohms with benign impedance curves made an ideal match for a tube. I drove the pair with 30 watts SET monos.*I listen to classical music and Jazz recordings I want something extremely natural, that conveys the music to the listener in a very palpable setting*

Thx Kuma
Do you know what these speakers sell for used ?
The problem is that they don't come up on a used market too often.

Thx for the information suppliedOne last question
Do these speakers have any cabinet resonance .. in other words in your opinion do they sound boxy.I've demoed many speakers and this is an issue with most cabinet designs. My ears have become accustomed to electrostats that i've heard over the years and i'm hearing the sound of the cabinet more and more
*Do these speakers have any cabinet resonance .. in other words in your opinion do they sound boxy.*Naim speakers are designed to minimise the cabinet colouration and vibration. That's one thing I like about their speakers. If there's one thing they do right is that they strive for electrosts coherence. Fast, open and dynamic free of cabinet and driver resonance.
A long time ago, they even made a proto-type electrostats speakers. ( unfortunately, they never got off the ground as a commercial product )
As you look the speakers the cabinet the house both drivers are separated from the bottom enclosure to minimise the vibration. Treble units are mounted on a sprung plate further preventing the interaction with the cabinet. ( you can read it further by reading their propaganda sheet )
Some basic care needs to be paid to set the separate enclosures but they are not anywhere fussy as their past SBL or current SL2 which go one step further by suspending all drivers and head units from the cabinet.
They are fairly revealing in that any colour/flavour will be added by your source and amplifiers of choice.
That said, they do have a xover colouration compared to other costlier speakers yet they do far more right things than many box speakers.
The popular belief is that a Naim speakers can't image or stage.
Not so.Given the right amplifier and source and set them up away from the room boundary, they were right up there with any *round-earth* speakers I have heard.
