I have an opportunity to purchase a pair of B&W DM4 monitors...but I'm unable to hear them first. I guess they are similar to the Spendor BC1 in that they have the same tweeter and super tweeter. I'm wondering if anyone can comment on the DM4 and how they sound. I'm concerned that the highs may be harsh sounding or bright....are they?
Follow Ups:
...thought they were the same as the DM4, but apparently they are different layout and cabinet. This is quite a speaker....very, VERY transparent. The jury is still out on these, though. I'm sort of looking for something to make every recording sound good and these may be too neutral. I'm also wondering if I'm giving them enough power(30wpc tubes).
...what is considered the best place for the tweeter control on the back? I find them to sound the most balanced when I back the knob off one notch. Currently have these in corners on 12" Spendor BC1 stands.

I enjoyed the pair that I bought for more than twenty years. I preferred them in a smaller room. My friend across the Missouri river is still using them. They don't have stygian bass or stratospheric highs but I remember them as very pleasing.
They do well with an amp that can do around 70-80WPC and mounted on stands. If you buy them, buy some of the fast-blow fuses that the speakers use.
with the celestion tweeter and coles super tweeter? they actually sound very musical and not hard like some of the others of that time. much preferred them to the bigger, dm2a. my only concern is how they have matured with time but it certainly was one of the nicer offerings of its type.

bobby
They sound very neutral imho.Remember they were designed to be placed against a wall, preferably a stone one.
Adam, if you want a copy of the specifications let me know via my normal lurking area.
