Good suggestion, but I had tried CD, vinyl, and FM. The only way it won't go into overload is if I use the headphone out. Curiously, sometimes I get 15 min. of music before it happens...and it seems to have nothing to do with volume or complexity of music. Help? :)
Follow Ups:
Try reversing your source inputs at the amp end (right output to left input and left output to right input) one at a time. If the problem moves to the right speaker, you have found the culprit.
If you swapped speakers, amp and speaker cables, it has to be upstream. I would say maybe bad power but that would not only affect one channel.
Yeah. I tried another circuit. I should point out that both speakers have been playing the same volume. That was a one-time thing for some reason.AudioAdvisor gave me a return # already just in case. But, I'm waiting to hear back from Cambridge Audio themselves. I'm not even convinced it's the amp or the speakers anymore, though. Maybe my condo is broken. :) Seriously.. it's crazy.. although the bedroom system plays fine using an NAD 7140. It's the MODERN amps that have a problem here. My tube radios work fine, too.. and my TV!
It's not likely to be the amp, speakers or speaker cable based upon what you already tried. I am no electrical expert, but I've heard people discussing having DC on the AC line and it is apparently bad and can fry an amp. I don't know how to test for it though.
I wonder.. It's an old office building converted to condo's. I had the electrical inspected and it "passed." Would one of those power conditioners help?
An isolation transformer may help if the problem is with your power.
hmm. Thanks. I'll look into them. I actually have ebtech HumX's because there were issues with grounding at the old place. But, my NAD that fried is two-prong. Hey. I'll try it.
