I recently purchased some DQ-10's that needed some driver changes. One blown tweeter, unknown and unoriginal mid-woofers and one mid-range driver had a star washer impaled through the cone. I wonder why they didn't sound quite right although the seller said they were perfect???? I tried to swap out the drivers with units of equal impedence but the mid-range is an 8 ohm unit where the original was a 4 ohm unit. Although the speakers sound much better, the mid-range is voiced louder than the other drivers. According to the crossover schematic there is a 5.5 ohm resistor going to the mid-range. What value resistor would I add to drop the output a few dB's? All I need is a range or a good starting point since I'll swap out values until it's voiced to my liking.
Thanks for your help.

They may be able to save you a lot of aggrivation.
.........there are dozens of folks over there that could assist U.If it were me in your position, I would replace the drivers with suitable replacements, or have them rebuilt, instead of trying to press fit an aftermarket driver, that is clearly not suitable, into postion and then trying to tailor it's response electrically.
I've included a link to Dahlquist speaker repair which should cover all your needs.

would be to strap an 8ohm resistor across the terminals of the midrange to knock it down to 4ohm.
Ironically in the stock design, the large Advent woofer with the fuzzy dust cap is paralleled with two series connected 4 ohm/10watt resistors in order to strap it's impedance down to 4ohms in order to match the 4 ohm cone midrange. The woofer and cone midrange are in a series connected filter. There are lots of options available, but the simplest would be to find a nice automobile 5 1/4" mid/woofer with similar efficiancy. I'm pretty sure the original midrange was a Philips unit, but in the context of this repair that's like when recommending a replacement automobile tire, 'Go for the rubber one.'I have to think that Madisound could probably offer the OP two or three drop in replacements for the cone midrange that will be cheap. They may even have the original unit.
