Is there a delay of four or five months to get delivery of a pair as I have seen stated somewhere?
Follow Ups:
As a recent seller of a large/heavy/valuable speaker it is possible to ship such an item safely and for a reasonable cost.I recently completed a transaction that involved shipping my Wilson speakers most of the way across the USA.
In preparation for the sale I established a Delta Air Cargo account. This enabled me to ship the speaker via air freight. The purchaser received the speakers in less than a day after I received payment and they arrive in the same condition as when I packed them. The cost was actually very reasonable…less than the cost of two airline tickets (for people) to the same location
For those of us that live away from the heavily populated urban areas of the country and long distance transaction may be the only option.
I do agree that care needs to be taken on the shipper’s part...especially with Vandy 5's or 5A's
...I would check with your dealer. The delay may be less if you order one of the standard finishes.
I asked my dealer this question last week and was told 4 - 5 weeks for standard finishes. Custom finishes can be longer depending on the material chosen and its availability.I've opted to have my cabinet maker send Vandersteen material to match the other woodwork in the room. No idea how much time that's going to add to the order, but I'm guessing 2 months total if I'm really lucky.
4 - 5 months is complete BS and simply was simply chosen by an audiogon seller to move his speakers.
FWIW I would NEVER buy a pair of 5s used unless I had the ability to inspect them first and then verify that they were correctly packed. It's a seriously heavy and bulky item which will only survive freight if correctly packed.
I would want to pick up any large item and not entrust it to to any carrier. That is why I limit the area where I can buy to the New England states. I still don't understand that sellers of large speakers or power amps price them quite high and appear willing to take on the risk of shipping such items across the continent or around the globe. Oh well, some people are made of sterner stuff than I.
