Looking for a compact sub to be used with a pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.1 in a small room 13'x10'x8'H.The Dyns are not too bad in the bass category, but a little help can be used. Sub discussion seems not very popular in here and I wonder if anyone have compared these 2?
Follow Ups:
Ended up with 2 of the Velos for my large room. Found them a little more punchy/weighty - suspect it's the 1000 watts at work. One of the British rags did a "shoot out" of small subs recently - it included the 108e - and the Velo came out on top by a wide margin in their eyes. I didn't find it a wide margin bit to me it was noticably better. The downfiring REL might be easier to place however. The Velos have a cool equalization feature that seems to work well although the volume control is all electronic - pushing a button to move up or down and you can only tell what level you are at by counting the number of times the front light blinks - huge, ridiculous pain in the ass when you are trying to dial it in - a manual dial on the back would have been better and cheaper. That said, I am going to go to a full range speaker vs the sub for seamlessness and appearance (WAF) - so you might see some Velos for sale somewhere soon.
Since I only have a 13x10 room, a full range is out of the question. They won't even fit through the door. The Velos will be more expensive to me, even used, as they are a newer model. But the electronic equalizer seems to be a cool feature especially in a problematic room, and a small room is always problematic when it comes to bass.
Thanks for the heads up, I most likely will be looking out for some used SPL-800R!
The Volume control is electronic because of the digital eq that is use. The input signal is converted to digital, all processing, room eq, and volume is done is done digitally. It makes for a shorter and fewer connections than a passive knob.
