A friend just inherited a pair of JBL 250ti speaker systems, which sound awesome, even as-is. Both woofers need new foam surrounds and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a repair shop in the Southeast that can do a quality professional job on these (I'm in Knoxville and often travel to Atlanta and Nashville).
Follow Ups:
Michael,While I was visiting Knoxville last summer, I ventured upon a shop called "Advanced Audio" right there in town. They seemed to do all kinds of work in the audio field, including loudspeakers.
They're right off the middlebrook pike near the split by Burger King.
Call Bob, to see if they are still open, as the last time he had the place up for sale. (865) 637-6694
If you already know about this place, i'd love to hear your thoughts about them.
When i do re-locate up there, i plan on joining the local audio club, maybe i'll see you at one of the meetings.
Bob has sold his Middlebrook Pike location and has moved up to Central Avenue Pike where he is now working in semi-retirement. His prices tend to be expensive. He convinced a friend with a pair of AR-28 speakers (twin 8" drivers in each) to replace the damaged speakers with new ones instead of repairing the old ones. The speakers never sounded very good after that, and the price for the new drivers was over $200. Similarly, Bob attempted to sell me a new 4" full-range driver for my KLH 21 table radio instead of repairing the old one. That would have cost me $75 (!) and I decided not to do it. In the end, I found a replacement 4" driver in a non-functioning KLH radio. It works great. While I never had a speaker actually *repaired* by Advanced, I wasn't impressed with the advice I received, or the quality/appropriateness of the replacement speakers Bob sells.
Can you provide info on the local audio club in Knoxville? Didn't know there was one ..
Is Advanced Audio still open ? I'm at work now, but, i have their phone number at home. I currently live in wpb, Fl, but hope to Live in your home town soon, as I absolutely love it up there.
Well, www.simplyspeakers.com is in Northern FL
I was hoping to drive these very heavy speakers to the repair shop. How's the work of Simply Speakers? They were very prompt in providing an estimate for their work ..
Work is fine. They have been doing it a long time.
