Is there a preamp on the market that I can use with the VSX516-K reciever I have purchased unawareingly thats not compatible to the 901 Bose IV. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Follow Ups:
The correct 901 units from the period sometimes show up on ebay. The Bose active equalizer was integral to the 901 series design and you need to have the proper Bose unit. There is nothing about the Pioneer receiver that would cause problems with 901 speakers assuming you have a 901 active equalizer, and you would need that irrespective of the receiver being used.
"There is nothing about the Pioneer receiver that would cause problems with 901 speakers assuming you have a 901 active equalizer, and you would need that irrespective of the receiver being used."you need some way to insert that eq into the circuit and that's usually done via ana tape monitor/external processor loop or between the preamp and main amp.
which is basically the following year's version of my 515K, but my 515K has inputs and outputs for what they call a CD write/tape DVD recorder.
This looks nothing so much like old tape monitor inputs and outputs. There is no obvious reason to me why an outboard equalizer Bose or otherwise could not be inserted here. Better still, add one of those little switch boxes MCM part number 32-4420 at mcminone.com on sale for $9.95 to these jacks and you could add all sorts of additional devices....
In a loop configuration, when you jumper the output to the input, the output is fed right back into the input when you push in the EPL or tape monitor switch. Likewise, whatever is connected to that loop (assuming it has inputs, outputs and is connectd correctly)is fed right back into the circuit. Most modern receivers do offer an output, but it's a one way ticket to some external recording device. The corrosponding input must be selected via the input selector on the front. ...major, major difference.
Simply put, unless he has a button on the front labelled "tape monitor", he's boned.
You've got to be kidding, right? You're just making fun of Bose fans, right? (If you're not, you should!)
I need a preamp for my VSX516K pioneer to use my 901 IV bose speakers? Is there a preamp out there I can use ?
1. The active equalizer that Bose makes specifically for this speaker (without that, you're toast); and, either2. A receiver or an integrated amp with either (a) preamp outputs and main amp inputs or a "tape monitor" or "external processor loop" which is a set of line-level inputs and outputs for connecting up the active equalizer; or
3. A separate pre amp and power amp, in which case you wire things like this: preamp> Bose equalizer> power amp.
Thank You So much for all of the inputs I have recieved about my speaker 901 issue. Im sure theres a way to loop these speakers in my system. Thanks Again Bobby H.
