I was informed today that M&K have closed their doors as of 2/22/07! Having just talked to them about a problem I have been having with my aged sub, I was shocked to hear the news today when I contacted them about returning some parts. The tech guy there (Barry) was pretty cool and very helpful when I talked to him Feb. 19th.
Follow Ups:
it says the chatsworth factory is closing after 34 years. you know what that means, right?CHINA!
another US factory bites the dust due to overseas competition. yes, i'm speculating, but i'm probably right.
Can be, but it seems that M&K discovered many counterfeit speakers that comes from China. Here, I live in Shanghai, there is a lot of talk on the hifi forums, with the local distributor that is trying to explain to everybody that only the Chatsworth factory is closing. To me, it's clear that M&K stopped all the operations, but I can be wrong.
Stereophile has a brief blurb. Looks like a couple of things happened, and that at some point, we will see more of Kreisel in the future.http://www.stereophile.com/news/030507kreisel/
everyone gets counterfieted though. never stopped louis vuitton. i think a lot had to do with competition from the likes of KEF and all the other brands that are now made overseas.
Yea, there has to be more to the story. I suspect you are correct - lost sales due to counterfeit products I doubt could be the sole culprit. Hopefully they will re-emerge leaner and meaner!
