what would be the sound difference, strength & weakeness of each model? I am looking to upgrade my speakers and considering this 2 speakers. I prefer a smooth top-end non-fatiguing even if it sacrifices a little bit of detail. a midrange bloom for vocal tracks and would love a thick rich bass. which one will give a more powerful bass response.
Follow Ups:
Based on your requirements...I would be thinking more the Spendor 2/3 or 1/2...easy electrical loads (for use with tube amps)...nice mid-range bloom.
100WPC may be sufficient to drive them loud, but both Dyns and B&W exhibit not so pleasant impedance and phase angle variations (to the best of my knowledge).
In addition, both are reflex type.Combine both above with typically low output impedance of the typical tube amp and you have significant frequency aberrations plus lack of woofer control.
Add to that request for "smooth top-end non-fatiguing" and "... midrange bloom..." for which none of the mentioned speakers is not known for, plus "powerful bass response" usually not associated with typical tube amplification.
Now if we would know what that tube amp is, and the rest of the system, room, listening levels, type of music... maybe we could say something.
i just sold my b&w 604s3 being driven by a consonance 9-watt 300B amp with satisfactory result. I listen to all types of music especially jazz vocals, bossa nova, electronica, acoustic instrumentals, house, big band jazz, pop, rock, metal etc.. but listen to moderate levels only in a 13ft x 14 ft room.Just about to confirm the purchase of a Cayin A100T 100-watt KT-88 based tube integrated amplifiers, i currently have on audition driving my old but beautiful Maggie MG12. I plan on getting either the B&W's or Dyns to switch between the maggies in case i want more dynamics and bass. CD player is Consonance Reference CD2.2
If 9-watt 300B amp drove b&w 604s3 with satisfactory result for you, Cayin A100T 100-watt KT-88 would definitivelly do the job for you.Not for me, though.
Btw, Maggies have very smooth inpedance curve, mostly constant.
thanks for the comments, i listen mostly to music at moderate levels even if its house or dance music anyway :) just like additional bass punch, i dont plan on selling the 300B amp also for switching, in case i need a more lush vocals & mids,
In my admittedly limited experience B&W aren't nuts about tubes amps. Can't say about Dynaudio.
100 tube watts for either speaker is fine, more so than you think. I drive a pair of B&W 800's with a pair of 140 watt mono tube amps with no problems in a 20 x 14 room.Going from solid state to tubes, most of the time you will notice a difference in bass, with the solid state amps having a more pronounced bottom end. I have integrated a subwoofer using the Velodyne SMS-1 subwoofer ccontroller and had room tuning also done.
