In Reply to: where will speaker design be 10-25 years from now? posted by freddyi on March 1, 2007 at 17:48:30:
The implicatons are more profound than the advances in engineering postulated here. You don't need an audio system or HT to listen to "Lifetime for Women".Think;
Smaller speakers to the point of disaprearing.
Much more money going into good looks rather than performance.
Being driven to "Turn it down!", or retreat to headphone use.Don't think you have not been affected, we all have to some extent. As I kid I watched the men of the early 60's function in society and they ruled. We are realtive wusses now days, and things are getting worse.
Follow Ups:
Tom,First, let me say that I am female (I realize that monikers can be misleading). Next let me state: I am not you, have been married for 27 years, but would not settle for anyone who demanded these things. My husband has (for the most part) supported my hobby. Yet, I have had to slide a few things into the household under the radar.
There are beautiful, feminine, intelligent, music-loving women out there who can learn to understand gear. In 1977, John Fort (who I was dating at the time) and Albert Porter (the sales manager at Arnold and Morgan in Dallas) introduced me to this crazy hobby. Through education and synergistic gear, they helped me understand that the equipment can truly elevate the music. I have been hooked ever since.
I would rather purchase 2-channel audio gear than clothes, furniture or the latest trends in perfume/makeup. I am also a car enthusiaste. Yet, most men have never be able to decipher my hobbies based on first impressions. Be patient...there are more of us out there.

And in general the impact of women will be negative on the natural behavior of men and their hobbies. Although I wish I had met you 27 years ago.
And, I you. Except you realize, we would be totally broke? :-)I understand your point but I believe these type of women still exist...they just need to be taught. Here's my example: I was a natural music lover. My grandparents loved to tell the story of how I would dance, sing at the top of my lungs, and fortunately exhibited dancing rhythm at a young age (19 months). But, never played an instrument yet music has played a tremendous role in my life. My first allowance was spent on purchasing the 45 of "Mrs. Brown, You have a Lovely Daughter" and the LP of "Help" by the Beatles.
Look for a woman who just loves music. Look for one who really likes it when it sounds the best or can be taught when it sounds the best. Those can be taught about gear. Once I learned about gear, I was hooked. I promise you that they exist because I am educating many of those women...hopefully, a few of you guys out there will find them. And, again I will state, they are beautiful and intelligent. They just need to be allowed to state their opinion without being shot down. And all of us audiophiles know how quickly we can cut someone to the bone when we disagree, no?
but there are women who have the same challenges as you. I have to slide equipment into the household under the radar, he doesn't appreciate all of the beautiful music that we have available to us (doesn't really like ANY music), although he did when I met him. Here is my advice: do not marry anyone who does not LOVE music. And now I am done.
...my fellow audiosister.
a lot of sensible thinking goes out the window!
"Here is my advice: do not marry anyone who does not LOVE music. And now I am done. "
...I'll be listening to Beethoven through my Alon Vs & Herron gear (by then all vintage) with my SO in my cottage by the sea......and you'll be cooking, cleaning and listening to music on your own?
Maybe I'm wrong.
You think women are the only ones (or even the main customers) who buy lifestyle systems?

Real men don't carry around big, ugly chips on their shoudlers.
but others have attached links to sites that may help to educate you.
They were all kind, responsible and had a sense of humour about themselves and others.
Most younger guys are fed up with the behavior of most women. I'm personally very fed up with the ridiculous weak men of my father's generation. I think things are worse because that generation has a lot of power right now The pendulum will swing the other way when they retire. The female dominated public school system is awful so don't expect a lot of good speaker designers any time soon.
Read an amusing article about avoiding the misery of american women:
