In Reply to: Ninka owners---real benefits from bi-wiring? posted by NDalfriend@aol.com on February 22, 2007 at 15:41:10:
Assuming that you're planning on keeping your Ayre integrated, then active bi-amping is out of the question.Yes, biwiring will make a difference, though I didn't find it was that huge.
If you haven't got a pair of the polymer/concrete bases for the speakers, I'd do that first. In my experience, that made more of a difference to focus and solidity than biwiring.

Yes, I do realize you can't actively bi-amp Ninkas with an Ayre integrated! I do have the Ninka polymer bases. I recently bought Naim Arivas and they outperform the Ninkas in almost every area. Yes, they are more expensive, but to get the Ninkas even close to their performance you have to buy all the necessary 'stuff' to actively 'bi-amp' them---amp, crossover, which actually makes the Ninka setup more expensive.
Didn't mean to come across as pointing out the painfully obvious with respect to the active bi-amping... that was more in response to the other posters who were offering a suggestion which you apparently were not willing to entertain. If you're still going to keep your ninkas - presumably for another system - then you might want to try Cardas speaker cable. That may be your best chance if you favour a warmer, fuller sound.
You never know someones intentions on this thing...Yes, I like Cardas
in general. and also Chord cables(not electronics, even though I hear those are good, but my dealer dropped them). The Chord (cable) distibutor is right here in
Dallas, so I'm sure he will have some suggestions. Do you still
have Ninka's? If so, in what system? I have two systems:
Naim CD5/Flatcap2/Nait5/Arivas. and Rega Apollo(on the way), Ayre
Integrated, Ninkas(which may be leaving). I am actually considering
a Magnapan so a very different sound from what I have. I had their 3.something several years ago and liked it. My favorite dealer also carries Spendor which I have mixed feelings about, but will probably listen to again. Only disappointing speaker later is the
Wilson Duet---detail to the max, but something disturbing and/or boring to the sound...I think it is farily pricey too. Anyway, thanks again and happy listening!
Yep, I still have the ninkas. My system should be listed in my profile. I have them actively bi-amped with a Linn AV5125 amp, and augment the bass with a Linn sub. That's another option too - the sub adds a room presence, and tends to 'relax' and fill-out the mids as well.I like the Spendor speakers, but I like Harbeth even better. They're a little less 'boxy' than the Spendors in the mids, if that makes sense. If you like the Naim/Linn sense of pace, and want some more musical resolution and detail, that's a good choice. Maggies are nice as well, if you have the space to get them well into your room.
I agree on the Wilsons. They're fast and detailed, but I still find them a little cold. The new Sophia isn't like that though, it's excellent.
