i've never blown a driver in my life and i get my system up to lively levels on a regular basis. i guess because i'm using vintage mcintosh MC60's. if they just failed then disregard. but, as a rule of thumb, if your ears are hurting, so are your speakers ;-)
Follow Ups:
before you were born it was common for tweeters to blow at crisp levels.
Find me an AR/Advent?KLH speaker from the 50's/60's/70's with unblown tweeters and I will give you $100 each. Yes.
The New Advent from '77 had ferrofluid cooled tweeters. I drive my double pair with a 400 watt Threshold amp.
those are the ones I had. They still blew too easily.
Good luck with them. I loved mine.
okay dad, i may be 33 years old, but i've had my fair share of vintage speakers. from bozak 302A urbans to acoustic research AR3 to janszen Z-600 to janszen Z-200 to wharfedale W-60 to jbls with 075/D123, etc.
