I auditioned the Vandys last night and really came away with how right they would be in my system and room. I'm in speaker upgrade mode and have wanted to swap out the Thiels for something less bright. The Vandy's could be the ticket. They are more forgiving, yet very revealing and I like the way you can control the bass with equalization for the room. That's been my main issue. My only concern is that there is a lot going on in the back of the speaker. Biwired connections that don't accept standard spades, high pass filters between pre and amp. more power cables to to power up the woofers, etc. I like keeping things simple. Wondering if with the high pass filter and powered subs, if I will lose the sonic signature of the amp driving the whole thing.
Follow Ups:
Add the Green Mountain Audio Calypso to your short list. You'll be glad you did.

However, we have never had a problem using Cardas spades on the Vandersteen binding posts.

Richard has gone to great lengths to make sure that the high-pass filter is extremely transparent. The woofer amp is driven by the main amp, so whatever signature your main amp has will also be transferred to the woofer, keeping things coherent.
You could also give the Vandy 3a Sigs a try. They don't have any of the above issues (although they are larger and less attractive than either the 2.4s or the Quatros).
for aesthetics. This definitely is a case of form running a distant second to function. I wonder why he doesn't provide different fabric colors for the speaker enclosures. Would make the speakers more appealing for the WAF. I ordered the black sock version. Couldn't see paying an additional three big ones for a little bit of wood.
