The Audio Note M2 I use is an excellent preamp and if I had the cash I'd definitely opt for more of the same in the M3 but alas I haven't.I can howver trade the M2 in against the used LAMM LL2 and every review I've read of the LL2 suggests it's an exceptionally neutral but musical pre which is what I want.
Buying blind is a risky business but I've done well so far (touch wood) and I'm tempted by the LL2 for sure.

he said it was the business. Then again he was using it with his 20 or 30-grand Lamm monoblocks and Quad ESLs so it should do well. The non-deluxe is about $500 cheaper and has "lesser" quality caps and resisters as you`d imagine. AD couldn`t hear any difference between direct and non-direct mode but you might. Quality all the way. Haven`t seen anything bad about Lamm, the only negative is about the price and not containing £xxK worth of components. I guess R&D/customer support ain`t cheap.
The separate L/R volume controls would drive me nuts - channel imbalance paranoia would keep me awake at nights.
Haven`t read anything on the VAC - I don`t know if Jack at the Audio Salon would send you his one for a home dem.Ah, the thrill of the chase!
Guy.
I've spent the last few days telling myself that I really don't need a change of preamp but since when has upgrading been about 'needing' a fresh component? The trouble with the LAMM LL2 is that I can't find anyone saying a bad thing about it, and there just so happens to be a plethora of reviews on this pre; Enjoythemusic, Soundstage, Positive Feedback and Stereophile ALL rave about the damn thing and what they describe is EXACTLY what I want in a preamp which is basically one with the M2's supreme musicality allied to more resolution and better bass.
If YOU were about to trade in a preamp you were happy with for one you'd never heard I'd urge you to think again, but like you say, the thrill of the chase and all that..... :0)

as the reviewers can`t all be wrong. The worst case is it doesn`t quite gel with your other stuff and you sell it again for what you paid for it. You can then say you buy and sell Lamm gear - think of the kudos and the chase then starts again! A win-win situation in anyones book if you ask me.
Just make sure your power amp(s) have a min input impedance of 25Kohms and everything should be fine. The UK importer should be able to bring it up to Deluxe spec for a few hundred quid so there`s something else to look forward to!Let me know how you get on.
