The room is 14' x 25 (finnished basement) the ceilings are 7' tall.
I have to sit 12' from the front wall (due to a support column) So i am 12' from the 14' front wall, with aproximately 13' feet behind me of empty (pool table) space. i am wondering if i place the speakers approximatly 8 feet apart and put the speakers 4 feet out from the front wall (8 feet away from me now) if this will work, or am i too close?
the speakers would be too far appart and too close to you, imho. deaden the back wall and put them close to the wall behind them and they should be no farther than 6 1/2 feet appart.

Hi Bobby,Just wonder - isn't 6 1/2 feet between speakers a bit close? I have no problem in my small room but for a large room like Mike's, aren't we not using the benefit of a 'wide' room' and are we sacrificing some soundstage width if we put them so close together?
champion,
the speakers work more like a pulsating sphere that anything. they have very broaddisperion and should be used closer together to maintain the body of the sound but shot almost straight out in the room (use my alighment tool). you will still have a wide stage but maintain the tonal balance so you end up with the depth that they can provide. speakers with a hole in the mids like to be farther appart and toed in more than the merlins. again, it is all about power response and how the speakers set up at the listening position rather that nearfield applications. setting the speakers up my way will produce a stage that has equal depth and width. your way a wider than deep stage will result.and by the way, i sent the mail with the amp information but it was returned, your e-mail address seems to not work. this may be what happened the first time. i respond to everyone that contacts me.
Thanks for your explanation. Did you receive my email to bobby@merlinmusic.com? Could you please try again on
mk-cheung@ieee.org?
i am sorry but this address does not work either. the mail was returned to me.

Thanks for trying, seems like I have to give up ... :(
champion, if you send me the mailing address that you want the brochure sent to i will send it immediately. or, do you want it sent to the address where we sent your speakers?
