I just would like to discuss this matter with you ,, I have listened to maybe hundreds of different high end speakers for the last 15 years ,, I have been to many Hi-FI Shows throughout Europe ,, but I find my self ,, more and more in love and preference for monitors than floor standers ,, I find them give better image and more controlled bass ,, easier to place in the room ,, more musical ,, I am an owner of a Diapason Micra III ,not very famous brand , but I find it really excellent although no much reviews about it ,, I tested it against much bigger and more expensive brands but finally choosen it for its musicality and its bass quality and clean sound .
I would like to share these thoughts with others that have similar experience like mine ,, and open to any other speaker proposal that could better the one I have ,, thank you

Stand mounted would definitely help with the floor bounce and you could locate a sub independently for nice bass. The room is always a factor and it's cubic feet, not just square feet that your filling up. Floorstanders have their advantages too so you decide based on YOUR own preferences and live happily ever after.
Nice looking speakers. I wasn't aware of them. I'll add them to my list. Just one question: they show a low bass, which probably means a long, gradual roll-off down to 40 hz, correct or not? Where does the roll off start?I agree with you 100%. For big rooms, I also love these with a bigger box or in a floorstander, like the Proacs and the Spendors.
You won't find a lot of 2-way advoactes here, except for the Audionote lovers and small room folks. If I had a BIG room, I'd buy a quality powered studio monitor. Not many folks, here, use them either. They are referred to as "DJ equipment".
I'm using a pair of Quad 12L Active monitors plus sub in my 15x27x8ft. room, and the sound is wonderful...more than enough dynamics and weight to the music.
I believe it should be two way speaker vs. three or multi ways speakers instead bookself vs. floorstanding speakers. The monitor usually are two way speakers, the crossover is simpler tham three or multi way speakers, but less bass. That is where the floor standing speakers come in, but three or multi way speakers have a tall task of corssover design. It has two crossover points in three ways than only one crosspoint in a two way crossover design. Crossover is the main problems for speaker design.
There are some very slim two way floor standing speakers, it is just like a good two way speaker with extended box to the floor. It give more internal volume and produce lower bass.
Think about it, the space below a small bookself minitor is not useable anyway, plus there is extra expense on a good stable speaker stand. If you like bookself monitor speakers, you should try the two way slim floor standing speakers. Some of them sound really good. It could be the best of the two world!

Interesting. I've been in this hobby for slightly more than a decade and I got the opposite experience. I've always loved standmounts in my little apartment because floorstanders sound boomy there. But ever since I moved to a larger place a few years ago, it has been the complete opposite experience. Not even adding a pair of subs can solve my craving for bass weight and power so I ended up craving for floorstanders instead. Now given the superior bandwidth, dynamics and sensitivity of floorstanders (admittedly usually at the expense of imaging) - I doubt if I can ever go back to small speakers again except for small rooms.
by your standards?
Anything smaller than 12'x16'x9' is small in my opinion. My ideal size room is around 17'x29'x10'
I see this term a lot, just curious about people's concepts of room size.
Imaging and tone that is unimaginable.
