A) I'm really trying to avoid metal cones and tweeters. B) I'm not really interested in poor quality mid-fi products.

Oooh. A snob on a budget who has probably never heard Axioms. You should find yourself a nice brand name.
I'd say he has a level of what is referred to as "healthy skepticism."
Too often, we get promises of "something for nothing." While there are legitimate giant-killer products out there, AXIOM is kind of new.
I have not heard them.
The reviews are generally very good, but upon examining the wordage here is my take:The axioms are above midfi. They may even be classified as entry level high end. But all the reports seem to say a similar thing:
-They are not as open and transparent as "high end" would be
-Imaging is a little opaque
-They are not the last word in detail, as per a high end level should be.I would not expect miracles from axiom, but I'd expect they should be exceptional for the money, and do not possess too many weaknesses associated with mass-fi. That is my "healthy skepticism."

Oooh. A slob on a tangent who blindly accepts the bogus axiom of the herd. You should find your stereo at the nearest Walmart.
I didn't realize that this discussion was so long, you were the original poster. I must say that I must apologize, you are not a troll. Although you were a bit pretentious, but like I said, you seem to have come to your senses. Well, happy listening.Gataca
Ooh a pretentious Troll. That is what you are, whether you acknowledge it or not.Gataca
Ooh, a slobbering, cretinous, illiterate moron; that is what you are whether you acknowledge it or not. Now get off the computer and go listen to some Tiny Tim on your General Electric boom box.
I do believe I apologized. If you did not read it I will understand. But if you did and you still saw the need to respond with that candor, then you are pathetic.
Hello GatacaBlueSky is a guy who invites recommendations and then insults folks who recommended Axiom M60s or M80s as "low quality mid-fi" products. Talk about biting the hand ...
Personally I hope whatever speakers he ends up with burst into flames.

Buy some horns, you know you wanna.
I m running a Cary CAD 808 (Rocket 88) and a SLP 50 b pre-amp with Axiom M 80 ti. The Axiom are not a budget pair of speaker. They are exactly what you are looking for. Check www.audioshop.on.ca , they have a pair on sale now. Actually, i borrowed the Axiom from my Home Theater set-up to replace Totem Mani-2 that i didn t like for the same reason that you post in the last few days. I was running the Totem with a Musical Fidelity A300 integrated and did not like the upper midrange wich i find very harsh and fatiging. You will be able to run your low powered tube amp with the Axiom no problem. They are 96 db in 4ohms. Very efficient, superb imaging, tremendous bass and sweet midrange . The finish is remarkable for the price. They used to detail for $ 800 us 3 years ago and now the Axiom company realized the quality of that product and are marketing them for, i think, $ 1100 us. Still a bargain. You can even have a 30 days trial in home. You can go wrong. Try them and you will not called them budget speakers. Hope this will help in your quest for better sound. Best regards, Donat.
I just visited the Axiom website again. They are indeed an interesting product. After reviewing their dimensions, though, their footprint is too large for the space that I intend to use them. Thank you again for the recommendation.

Axcuse me???
Thanks for the advice, but I have heard so much bad press about metal tweeters in addition to what I have experienced that the idea of an Axiom product really frightens me. I'm also a little shy about "too good to be true at this price" type speakers. Do you really consider these Axioms to be that fantastic? What are some other products you've compared them to?
Like to each his own ,but if I were to give credence to every review or opinion on audio I would own BOSE!NEAR had alot of bad press also, but after listening I was convinced they hasd something.Mine are not stock and I would not trade them for anything I have heard under $3K. There are speakers I like more ,but for my ears and pocket I made the right choice.
Axioms can be improved by changing out the XO components. I guess Paradigm and others who use metal should try to go to China and leave the Euro\American and Canadian markets alone!Bastards!
If you have not noticed there is alot of metal floating around the audioworld like Metal in Ribbons and Metal in Planers.VMPS had great ratings at the Audio shows I have read about.
I do not know who you have been reading ,but I would go listen before scorning Metal Driver technology. It has come a long way!
