Mates,I've been following a certain amplifer for awhile. This was first on Audiogon and not sold. Whne this appeared on Ebay which z much lower starting price I entered a bid and was the only bidder though there were over 200 views of the listing. In the last minute I entered three bids but in the same last minute a new bidder entered and I lost.
Now, the item is relisted. The auction ended at 6PM last evening, but unless the finsihing time can be set, the new listing with a "Buy It Now" apparently started at 4PM - or before the previous auction ended.
Was I shilled out by a shill bidder for the seller- who's been trying to sell this item for three months?
I've asked the seller for an explanation, but should I trust his explanation?
Cheers,
Bambi B
Follow Ups:
and seller has defaulted on the contract for sale. Take the seller and ebay to court.
But thats me. YMMV.

I always lose out to someone else who has some "magic."
Maybe it is time to try some "sniping"? Why leave all the "magic" to others? Get some for yourself! ;)
A seller can select a starting time for an auction and that affects the ending time. If it starts at 8PM Pacific time, it will end at 8PM Pacific time.I'd stick with your gut on this deal though. If it walks like a duck and smells like a fish it's a buffet of any number of games people play. I know things like this are disappointing so hope it works out for you. Take care - Fran
"The truth is out there"
that led you to ask the question.
You could very well have been shilled, but there isn't enough evidence to suggest it. Unlike Chuck, I don't think "gut instinct" is sufficient grounds for a conclusion. If this was indeed a shill, I'm surprised the seller didn't simply offer you the item as a "Second Chance Offer." Unfortunately, this is a common shill since eBay implemented this function. To relist the item costs the seller more money in listing and commission fees.
"Now, the item is relisted. The auction ended at 6PM last evening, but unless the finsihing time can be set, the new listing with a "Buy It Now" apparently started at 4PM - or before the previous auction ended."The new listing should contain information as to when it was posted. And last-minute bids aren't necessarily shills. Often, they are "snipes" generated by programs that automatically enter a bid 10 seconds before the closing time. If a seller does not want to sell an item, he can wihdraw it at any moment -- even though a bidder cannot retract bids in the final 12 hours.
And if you really want informed opinions, you should include the eBay listing numbers for both the completed listing and the new one. Otherwise, all you'll get are guesses.

These issues could happen with model railroad cars, flourescent socks or rare pez candy....IMO, - this is an audio forum.
Go outside and play, post about audio here...
S.man,General Asylum is a forum for audio related topics that don't fit into other forums. The subject is a $2000 amplifier and Ebay and Audiogon are commonly used by many here. That's audio content and is apparently interesting to others or there wouldn't be posts.
The first word of the subject line is "Ebay". If that is a topic that doesn't interest you, why take your valuable time to read about it and post? When I see yet another 121 posts on the subject of the "i-chip" I skip over most, but I'm glad that people engage the subject as it brings in issues of audio perception.
On this planet we use the computer to get information and assistance on diverse subjects. Why do you object to my asking advice on an audio purchase from more experienced people?
Regards and piss off,
Cheers!
you're right...It's not my place to moderate the forums....my post was born out of the frustration that the same scenario is possible with rugs or bobblehead dolls..... I also hate Ebay and avoid it like the plague...
Apologies though... you're right...
Hate eBay? I have 1,000 transactions a year for the past five years with excellent feedback, only two negs, and very little in the way of complaints. What's the problem?
I always lose out to someone else who has some "magic."Or, - the price of the item goes so close to retail, that it's easier to just go to Audiogon or "cool-gear-r-us" or whatever.....
Cheers J, (hope that you're well).
