I have an item for sale in the classifieds. I got an email asking about the product. It looked a little suspicious but I answered all the questions. Then I got this email:
"I really appreciate your prompt response to my questions. I seem to be satisfied with the price and condition of the item. Well, I'll like to raise a check or a money order for the payment of the item and I dont know if you accept any of these as a mode of payment.
As for the shipment, I guess shipping her might give rise to another kind of delay which I wont tolerate so I'll suggest I take care of the shipping part, how about that?
Well, get back to me with the name and address you'll like the payment to be mailed out to along with the actual location for pick-up purpose.
Hope to hear from you soon. "
Follow Ups:
I was selling a Headphone tube amp on AA, also got an email from the famous m.karres@juno.com, he or she actually went as far to send me a check for $1,850.00 for a $250 dollar amp, and to wire the rest of the money to somebody in London, "yeaaaa right" The fake check is from Northwest Federal Credit Union in Herndon, VA, going to call them up to let them know to be on the look out.
I recently got the same response to my ad for an integrated amp. Same email address (m.karres@juno.com). Thought it sounded a little strange having a lawyer send payment. Anyhow, he agreed to send a money order and wants to send a "carrier" to pick up the amp. I told him the check or money order would have to clear my bank before I released the amp - he agreed. I still haven't received the money order (almost 2 weeks later) and just decided (on a hunch) to search the web for that e-mail address and found this thread. I see now that he's probably up to no good.
I responded to them saying that I used Paypal and they came back asking if I would take a check (again). Definite scam.

But after reading the link in Central about the African Scammers I was on the lookout. When this guy told me he was going to have his lawyer prepare the paper work, that was it for me. I'm only asking 300.00 for the table. Who pays a laywer to handle that small amount!
I got the same one for an ad here in AA. I said if your going to pick it up bring cash, that is unless this is a scam. Of course I got no response to that email.
Do not stop, do not look back and do not answer the call of the great scam
I got the exact same message for an item I have for sale. I requested Paypal so we will see if I get a response. Not likely. The posters moniker is: m.karres@juno.com.
NO postings here on AA and just registered on January 5th.

Well it's a sure scam then because that was the same name the person contacting me used.It seems whenever the buyer offers to arrange for shipping and pay by cheque or money order it's a scam.
i got the exact same response to some speakers i'm selling. over the weekend i got 2 other emails from people asking the same kinds of questions as the original email in the same broken english and signed by Music Lover/Audiophile. seems like some wide spread phishing is going on ...
Smells like a scam to me. Try telling them bank transfer or Paypal only and see what you get for a response. That will tell you real quick.
