If a audiogon customer requests that I send him something UPS / COD, if he pays the UPS delivery man with a counterfeit money order, does UPS make it good or am I out the money?
Follow Ups:
Too many potential problems
Neither UPS nor Fedx,Dhl, etc accept cash for COD's anymore - too dangerous for the drivers and too expensive for their corporate liability policies. While you as the Shipper can specify Certified/Cashiers/Money Order only upon delivery, do you really expect a truck driver to detect forgeries????I send out 30,000 COD packages annually, but if not for Telecheck and UPS Capital Direct Deposit I wouldn't send squat COD - especially across state lines.
Frankly, COD is a relic of the past - too many sharps out there who understand all too well that they can float a personal/company check given to a delivery driver for about a week.
You are out the money. UPS provides no protection against couterfeit payments or NSF checks. I would only accept COD from a person of reputable history/feedback.
nt
No major courier which offer COD services (USPS, UPS, Fedex, DHL, etc.) will accept cash as payment. They will only take money orders, cashier's checks, or personal checks.
Actually, USPS Carriers are authorized to accept cash for COD's, although we emphasize that other payment methods are preferred. An extra 90 cents is charged for a cash transaction to pay for the USPS money order!
