Ok guys, I know many of you have had questionable experiences with American Theatre systems. I think that I have a story that may be able to top at least a few of them. No, it doesn’t involve not getting the product that I ordered, and no, it does not involve back charging my credit card. This is merely something that I found strange and very, well, unprofessional. Here’s the story, I had ordered a pre-amp (which I have received in perfect condition.) from them a couple of weeks ago. I was up pretty late working and typing a few memos for my 8 business meetings the next day. It was 2:00 AM and I was about to go to bed, but I figured I better just call American Theatre to leave a message on their machine and tell them that I had sent payment for my pre-amp. So I called, and much to my surprise someone picked up, the first time he said "home theatre" and then hung up. The second time I called back I was greeted with the Garry Coleman soundboard from http://www.ebaumsworld.com/soundboards.shtml (these sound boards are used to make prank calls). So, as you would imagine I was a little confused, actually I was very confused. It wasn’t until after I threatened to cancel my paypal transaction that someone actually picked up the phone and said "SIR, I greatly apologize I thought that you were one of my installers calling." Yeah right, no legitimate theatre company installs their products at 2:00 in the morning; if they did they wouldn’t have any clients. So I then asked him if American theatre is a legitimate business his reply, "oh yeah, we have been in business for 26 years (on the website it says 27) we have our financial dept upstairs, 3 show rooms, and a warehouse with all of our products." When I received my package on the side of it was a return address that said "state street discount.” This means that they drop shipped from state street discount. This also means that they most likely don’t have a show room or a warehouse. The only thing that they have to brag about is their, most likely, 2 person financial department. So the moral of the story is, be careful, even though I had received my product in prefect condition doesn’t mean that you will. I’m sure that you have already read literature on this company but I am just reinforcing that these people are not honest.

American Theater Systems/Amsound2.com are a laughable fraud. There have been so many negative posts concerning American Theater Systems it's a wonder they still operate under that name.
"American Theater Systems" is a scam outfit. They are NOT authorized to sell most of the items they list. There is NO warehouse. No showroom.They roll out of bed toss some crap up on the internet then have it drop shipped from unscrupulous dealers.
According to other forums I've read the owner Kevin Mcevoy was previously arrested for defrauding customers and suppliers, among other things.

I am not sure I get what in this post may potentially point toward a higher risk of fraud? You did actually recieve your pre-amp on time and in perfect condition - is the issue that someone actually picked up the phone at 2am?Maybe it was his warehouse guy stocking the warehouse, or maybe he was working late like you and thought it was a buddy of his calling. I am not sure I would ever expect or be prepared for a customer callin at 2am. (I am not a dealer or anything, just a rhetorical statement)
I think there are a lot of plausable reasons to explain this - I mean you were calling at 2am after all, you probably caught the guy way off guard. It sounds like he thought you were a buddy of his or just some wrong number or something.
No experience with American Theater so I can't speak to thier history, but not sure your experience strikes me as something crazy unusual?
I understand what you are saying but there are typos all over their site and if there was a stock boy at their "warehouse" at 2 am i doubt that he would be answering their toll free number. Yes, crazy and unusual. I expected an answering machine. The point is that they lied about their warehouse because it was drop shipped from a different store (state street discount) in a different state. Yes i was calling at 2 am, that is scrange, i know, i am a nocternal person. They were not completely honest about the whole thing.
Just because the particular item you received was drop shipped does not mean they don't have a warehouse. They could have been out of stock on that item, or they may stock 15 of the 25 products they carry - or just TV's, or equipment they use mainly for custom installs. Etc, etc, etc.It does appear from an outside perspective that your concern is a bit far stretched. I think there are a LOT of unknown factors and a LOT of assumptions being made on this one.
Like I said, I am not defending American Theater - don't know them from Adam. But the call to action for concern seems a little overstated based on the information provided.
You may be being just a tad over zealous/sensitive on this one.
