Because triode-strapped mode reduces power output (by about half) vs that obtained in pentode mode. Makes no diff per type # or whether SE or PP, either.
Hi.
I know that but why the gain go thought the roof when pentode connected ?
may be these 6GW8 is quite different to other tube ?
6gw8 is no diff per other tube types in the respect you inquire about. BUT 4 watts is twice 2 watts, & with low power in either mode, that extra 2 watts is a BIG diff. With a more-powerful tube type to begin with, when the less-power triode mode is sufficient to drive your load, the extra power of the pentode mode is not fully utilized (or needed) when driving the same load. IOW, if it requires 4 watts (for example) to drive your speakers to acceptable listening levels, THEN you will notice a greater differance in 6gw8 modes than when using an el34 type (which outputs 6 watts in triode mode).
