I just received the above amp and just wanted to say that I am really really happy with its performance driving my cicadas as well as my various grado headphones (HP-1000, RS-1, GS-1000). Does not hurt that she looks beautiful as well. Absolutely no hum or noise on the cicadas, just a slight tint of it on my cans. Surprising bottom end, not the definitive in body and weight, but it is tight, impactful, and goes as deep as my room and the cicadas will allow. My room is small, a little under 10 x 10, so I am getting plenty of volume, and have not gotten anywhere near the threshold of maxing out on available volume and power, as my general listening volum is pretty low. The dynamics are great, highs are beautifully extended, the midrange is rich and open, with very nice bottom end as well.
Follow Ups:
Changing the drivers and rectifier tube will help with the body, but that pretty much is how the Moth sounds-its not the fullest warmest amp in the world.

Thank you for the input. I am currently using Sylvania 6sl7wgt brown base and a mullard rectifier. Any suggestions from there? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the sound. Very neutral, absolutely no noise or hum, fast and precise. The cicadas sound great, but eventually when i get more listening room acreage, some horns would probably sound fantastic, I have my sights on some Cornwalls, which I hear in the proper setup can really kick some bass in your chest.
I like the Sovtek 6SL7's and Sovtek 5u4G. They won't run you an arm and a leg to try.
The Mullard is fine. You can try some other 6SL7s, maybe some National Unions, or some RCAs. You may wish to stay away from the Sylvania 229s(? its been a while), they tend to be somewhat lean. The trueth is, drivers on the Moth don't make quite as big a difference as they do in other amps, but its worth a try. If you have the bucks, you may wish to try some RCA 2A3s (early 40's biplates) for some body. Stay away from the KRs.

I can do RCA biplates, the monoplates are ridiculous. I just hope the biplates aren't too far off, I have a friend who has a similar amp who just snagged a set of rca biplates, so i will give him a ring.
Like you mention, this is due in part to your room and speakers; however, if you can find a pair of KR2A3 or AVVT meshplate tubes you'll get more of that 'body and weight' you're looking for.Congrats on your new amp.
I am currently using the TJ Fullmusic mesh plates. I have not compared them with anything else, I have a pair of EH which I haven't bothered touching. I would love to hear those AVVT mesh plates, but unfortunately the wallet is a bit thin, but I will keep my eyes out.
