everything I've read says it's warm, harmonic, with superb bass.what speakers did you try with it, and which tubes were used?? TIA!

Yep, that's how I heard it as well. It is more neutral though than just about any of the 845 based SET amps I have heard.
I have tried 340 with my speakers Coincident TE II and with many speakers in my dealer showroom JM LAB Alto Utopia,Wilson Sophia II,Bosendorfer,SF Cremona,Kef Ref 207...
I am an integrated amp lover and have gotten a great hope to obtain a decent sound from
340 as it is simple and has a good topology for me,but it was a disappointment in my every listening session.
As for the comparison 340 vs 845 tube amps,maybe I would agree with Morricab if I had listened beyond the NAF and MS 845 amps to compare but these amps much better in every
scala than 340 (sad to say but it was what I hear ,otherwise I always prefer 300b to 845 tube)
