2CJ,The BXL's will be a waste of money as they are designed to be driven harder than normal 300B's. Actually, they are NOT 300B's. The new WE 300B from the Alabama plant are supposed to be the best ever but they
are not cheap and I have not personally heard them. The TJ's are nice.
Follow Ups:
I have the new WE from the Alabama plant and they are MUCH better then my TJ Mesh.
If they will last 40,000 hours then they worth every penny.
Please do tell. What have you used in comparison? Setup?
Thanks
My amps are Welborne Labs DRD300B connected to a KR Audio P150 preamplifier.
Speakers are the Medallion III with DX3 (DX4 are on the way) with a DIY subwoofer based on JBL B360.
I also have the HagDac from Hagerman Technology. My WE are like you described in you review, I love them.
The only 300B tubes that I have heard are the TJ and the WE.
Im not sure if you got my email. I got a notification that made it look like my email to you bounced. Please drop me a line at jazzandhorns@yahoo.com
Yeah pretty standard with WE prices. Their high no matter where you are. MarketingThat 5 year warrantee would be far more appealing if it wasnt just a percent of the retail after a year. I know you cant keep an eye on how people are using the tubes so that must be their reasoning. However at these prices I would think offering a full replacement would increase market appeal. Not that their performance doesnt sell itself. To each their own.
I think Im going to get a pair of TJ mesh balloons first and compare with what I have.
