I really need your help to decide on an integrated tube amp for my soon to arrive Horn Shoppe horn speakers.I am listening on everything from FM/AM talk radio, pop, rock and any other bad music out there…
The listening level is from low to medium level.I like bass when it's deep and controlled though I don’t know if the HornShoppe Horns will play any deep bass but I assume it will help if the amp can do it well.
First, what work best with Ed’s Horn Shoppe horns a SET or Push-Pull amp?
Any Horn Shoppe Speaker owner who has any experience with any of the amps listed below, I really need your opinion how it sounds as a combo.
- Decware SE34i.2
- Vaughn Audio Carina
- Almarro A205A MkII
- Vista Audio Model i84Please feel free to suggest any other amp out there.
I'm willing to spend around $1500.
Follow Ups:
As much as I like my Almarro A205mk2, deep and tight bass with very well defined pitch down low is not one of it's strengths. It's still a very nice little amp though.
Call Ed and ask him about the First Watt amp he has. It makes his speakers sing. He loves the amp with his speakers.
Those speakers are very good sounding ones!
You will be surprised, these speakers sound with full body and control, despite their tiny drivers and small size. If you like cello, or piano, (or vocals;) you will be VERY happy, but don't expect subsonic high spls titanic crashing with iceberg effect type of things.... ;)
As far as our hearing of correct tone goes, these are full range... you'll be pleasantly surprised. The benefit of tiny single drivers is unparalleled coherence and space, ultimate ease and elegance of presentation. And unless you have a huge room, they can play very dynamic and very articulate and controlled bass. I've heard an open baffle with such a tiny Fostex driver, and it was certainly one of the best sound I ever came accross, in the aspect of natural presentation you have to go to a live concert to hear the better. The HS is not as free sounding (boxes can't compete with OBs in that aspect), but has better low end extension and can play louder.
And 4in driver size is a bliss from heaven for SETs...........I can't recommend an amp from your selection, as I have heard only the Almarro, but not with these speakers...

He has a link in his post to the amp. He gives listening impressions with H.S. speakers.
