Hi folks, this is my first AA post. I was fortunate to purchase 4 amps from John, who passed away Sept 15, 06. The first amp he built for me was a fi primer 6sn7/26/300b with his signature 'webster' opts; then a 6sn7/26/45 using opts I harvested from a Fisher 500c receiver (again, an unlikely source of iron) and the vintage hammond chassis and pt; a way cool 6sn7/76/2A3, I believe his only 2A3 amp, webster iron from a matched set of organ amps that I actually got from ebay; and the last a pair of 6sn7/26/PX-25 monoblocs that I didn't order but was lucky enough to get. I have perhaps 200 emails from the time I first wrote him in Dec '04 until my last email in July '06, discussing so many things about these 4 amps. I have cut and pasted most of the interesting stuff onto two Word documents that I would be happy to share with interested parties. They total about 130 pages. They are full of fascinating insights into amp building, tube choice, parts used, short bio of him, emails from friends, AA quotes, links to circuits,my stumbling newbie comments and endless questions to him which he ALWAYS answered, and just a wonderful sense of him as a person- warm, fun-loving,& generous to a fault. and here is a link to the fi primer 300b circuit he used:OK, thanks, Randy M, Atlanta

Randy,Could you send me a copy of the word files? I am eager to learn, and based on the asylum posts he knew a lot about set amps. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Mahalo,
And to everyone interested, don't neglect to read John H's set asylum posts. His 'nik is nk2j. There are 95 posts beginning in 2000, and the links to some early photos are still active. Thanks to all who have written me. Please feel free to email directly :

RandyI would be interested in the word document you offered.
I never have too much information 8^D

Enjoy,
Hi Randy,If you have a fi primer 6sn7/26/300b, that is the only one of its kind. All the other 6sn7/26/300b's that I know of have the 6sn7 on seperate chasses and they are either a srpp circuit or a vtv one.
Plus if you have 6sn7/26/px-25 that is also a one of a kind. But I believe you can pretty much plop a px-25 into any of John's 300b amps.
I did not get to hear the 6sn7/26/45 with the Fisher opts, although maybe I did briefly.
And the 6sn7/76/2a3 is the only 2a3 amp but John did write 45/2a3 on a few of his 45 amps.
I thought he also built a fi primer 6sn7/300b for you or perhaps it was for a friend of yours. That was the only 6sn7/300b that he built in the latter stages of his building, although I have quite a few from the early building.
There's alot to learn about sound in all these amps especially with comparison among them and in comparison to other stuff out there.
I have a pair of JH parallel 300b monoblocks with a bit of a story behind them - if anyone is interested in learning more about them - e-mail me.
Please send pictures and the history behind them. Thanks,

Randy,I was one of the folks who started posting pictures of John's amps when he passed away. I now own three of his amps and if Asylum member 'njjohn' ever gets a copy of Hogan's schematics we plan on doing a magazine article.
Please send me the Word document - it would be very much appreciated.
