Hi all. First post on this asylum. Got the SET bug with a little 6N1P/EL34 SE amp I built over Christmas. Now thinking about venturing into real triodes - preferably with the option of trying different output tubes - either by switching components or switching board mounted socket sub-assemblies.Two options that spring to mind are an Aikido based driver stage vs the Bugle 45SE convertible a la Gary Kaufman.
Any thoughts/ideas/other options? Does keeping things convertible mean sonic compromise??
Cheers
Brian
Follow Ups:
I have an amp that can take 10Y (7.5V filament, 2.2K Rk), 50 (7.5V filament, 1.2K Rk) and 300B (5V filament, 1.2K Rk)The driver is 417A with CCS plate load. With this I am able to experience the sonic differences between the power tubes. My personal choice on this amp is the 10Y, if you should ask.
Sounds cool - and here I was just thinking about the usual suspects - 2A3, 45, 300B. Any schematic available? AC or DC heaters?

The 12bz7 almost has enough voltage swing to drive the 300B. So use it. The nice thing about the 6n1p is that it sounds good, and is simple. the same is echoed with the 12BZ7. I generally believe theorectically in only 2 stages max for an audio amp. So....try G.Pimm's Batt CCS on top of the 12BZ7.
12BZ7 has lots of gain, and a bit of current: enough to handle the miller cap.
cap coupled obviously
heater voltage with lots of current. the 2.5V 300b's will come in handy.
