Just wondering if any one has experienced what I am experiencing now. I have a Fi X and Y combination, however, one of the channel has a slightl low-level buzz noise, even when Fi-Y is turned down all the way, it does not have the problem when using other preamp with the X only when using with the Y, tried swaping Y tubes, but still same problem in the same channel. any suggestions??
Follow Ups:
I solved it by running a ground wire from the Y chassis to the ground on the wall socket
Hi,
I had the same problem but solved it with a change of tubes. The Sovtek is quite but not a great tube to say the least. So I went with an Amperex and while it's a bit noisy (but pretty good for an NOS)it sounds much better.
You can also try putting some Symposium Fat Padz underneath.I just switched to the Symposium for my 300 Super X and it made a hugh difference.I also used the Bright Star platforms but they tended to overdampen the amp. It is a solvable problem.
The Fi Y is a little on the noisy side and you do get a little hum, even with the volume turned completely, but this hum does depend on the tubes used and is about equal in both channels. In my case, a Super X with 94dB Cain Abbys, I can barely hear the hum at my seating position. One thing you could try is to lift the ground to see whether this is a gound loop problem, otherwise I would make sure to contact Don and see what he suggests. Are they plugged into the same outlet?
Also, the Fi combo did get a little quieter with the addition of a Running Springs Haley power conditioner.
Good luck!
Rene
