Thanks for the response. Completely forgot about Art owning ESL57s. I will try to dig up some old Dudley reviews - I think he might have even used a Fi X with his ESL57 in the Fi X review :).Also, I am very curious about the ESL to Fostex (Cain Abby) comparison - two very different designs. Both are of course, single drivers in a sense and should have similar type of coherence across the spectrum.

was in Vol. 4 No.3. Here is a brief quote:"A 2A3 amp doesn't drive ESLs. A 300B does, but just so, and only in a small room. (My guess is that anything much bigger than 13 by 15 or so would be dicey.)"
By the way, this was in 1998, several years before he got the 989s, or more recently the originals.
Man do I ever miss that rag. To date it is still my favorite. Too bad it had to end.

I love it, the sound hangs in the air. My fostex 166RLH speakers are rated at 95db spl and play at good listening levels. But they dont compare to my Magnepans. Complety dieefernt sound. They have bass you can feel but cant present complicated music well. Great for Blues or female vocal, but not orchestra. You migt post over on the SET forum to see if anyone drives ESL's with SET.
