I've seen you buy Majestic G45s on ebay before... so you know where to find them. ;-)the arcturus show up there from time to time, but they are not cheap. Same with the mesh plate globes. I sold a pair of mesh globes there a while back, I think they ended up going to Japan, which is where a lot of the exotica in 45s ends up probably. The people that have these rare 45s (self included) generally are hanging on to them, for whatever reason.
sonically, the EML betters them all anyway, so it's really more a matter of fashion/taste/exclusivity...
Follow Ups:
I haven't seen any on ebay in a long while ... none in NOS condition that is. I'm not looking to buy singles to pair up, but rather just one single in true NOS condition of each of the Arcturus and the Majestic to pair up with my two NOS singles here.I sometimes use the EML solid plates in my amp. Very nice tube indeed, but not exactly cheap. I also like to collect cool vintage tubes for the simple sake of collection.
cool, must be nice to have a colleciton of tubes to display, use occasionally.very neat
doesn't make any sense. you have singles of these up for sale now on ebay. but you are looking to buy some too?
The Majestic I have up now is not the smaller (and more common) glass bottle version which is what I'm looking for.
I can share your pain. I have unmatched 45's: including a Majestic, and three Arcturus 145's. Worse yet. there are two plate types for the Arcturus 145's!Situation reminds of my friend and I: we both own one each of the Marantz 3 mono crossover. Everytime we meet, the standard question is 'have you found a mate', followed by 'you wanna sell yours?'
But I share your passion for collecting old tubes. I like them in the original boxes, which makes it even harder to locate.....
Ah, I see... you want to find singles to match into pairs to pair up the ones you are currently selling on epay. Makes sense. pairs fetch more than 2 singles.
