They have some small shows booked too, but I think the air is out of the tires for the New Cars. Todd sees the writing on the dashboard.
Follow Ups:
That would be something. I think everyone pretty much knew Rundgren was only in the Cars thing for the short run. He has a long-established solo career, and I think he feels most comfortable running the whole show himself. I saw the NCs last fall, and they were really good. Particularly liked the new song "Not Tonight." In a different musical climate, it could've been a big hit.

Given that Ben Orr is sufferring from death. Certainly he's as imporant to The Cars sound as Skip Spence was to Moby Grape. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing either were they to come near.
I had no interest in seeing the Rundgren led Frankenstein when they did come near. Would have been more interesting if they conceived it as something totally new with an album to tour behind, and then threw some old Cars and Todd songs into the mix.
I had hoped they'd do an original 'new' album. There are probably better 'cover bands'than they are, considering they lack both lead singers. I thought they had potential, but lost interest.

Everyone I know that saw the Old Cars live said they were an appallingly bad live act. You could put robots up on stage and get the same results.
While they weren't the best live act I've ever seen, they weren't nearly as awful as your experience suggests. But, hey, different people have different expectations. I certainly got newfound respect for Elliott Easton's playing when I saw them (both old and new incarnations). The guy can shred.
