I was just referring to their studio efforts, which I don't think are bad at all. Do they stand up to Bowie's best work? Of course not. But, as I said, I think they're way better than most of what Bowie was doing in the '80s and '90s. He has since recaptured his muse, and it definitely shows. His last two albums are the best things he's donce since "Scary Monsters."
Follow Ups:
These two are pretty good & its nice they're on SACD, but IMO Scary Monsters was the last great Bowie album...
I consider "Scary Monsters" one of the very best things Bowie EVER did, and while "Heathen" and "Reality" don't match that high, they're still very impressive, and a sign that he's recaptured the spark he seemed to lose after SM. Can't wait to see what he does next.
I saw him live in Philadelphia in 2005 and what a concert! His core touring band has been with him since the 70s and are all crack players. Also his cameo at the piano bar on HBO's "Extras" last season proved he's still a gifted actor.
