Written on a suicide note attached to himself (Brad Delp of 'BOSTON'). If a respected and well-to-do rock star can feel this down, can you imagine all the other 'average joes' out there who are teetering on the brink of suicide, with feelings of loneliness and/or alienation? It's hard to believe someone like that can 'snap'. This is all so tragic, and then some.
Follow Ups:
Trust me, I know this all too well. I've known several people in my life who committed suicide, and two were very successful and had lots of money. It means absolutely nothing. If anything, the fame and/or money can make things a lot worse, because the person becomes disenchanted that it ultimately did nothing to ease his/her pain, which only perpetuates the cycle and sends them deeper into their tailspin. Brad Delp's death was tragic enough; the fact that it was by his own hand makes it doubly so.
in other words since so many of us commoners look at him and think "Wow, success will make you happy" he may have had an obligation to keep the charade going? Like comedians who are miserable backstage (I can name 3) but put on that happy face and go out there and kill em.
A little philosophy for the AM. Someone will get this wrong and think I am attacking Delp (as if you can attack a dead man).
If you are brought up to believe you CAN make it, and that that will make you happy and that you will lead a fulfilling life when you've made it and then you do make it... and you are still not happy... or maybe you start to dislike your life...
Did you ever see that rockumentary called something like The Metal Years where the singer from some band was sitting on an inflatable armchair in his pool, still wearing his leather trousers slugging from a bottle of vodka and the interviewer asked how much he drank and he stuttered "2" and she asked "2 fifths or two bottles?" and he looked at his bottle as if he didn't know and then tried to pour the bottle down his throat.
At which point his mother came out from the house and pulled in his armchair...
I have no idea who it was, or even in fact if it was "real", but I can tell you from that moment on I knew i never wanted to get back into the music business.
Now I'm going hunting for that film...
NT
... and here is a link to the IMDB about the film.
I suggest EVERYBODY sees this film once in their life...
