OMG, finally saw the performance online. i can see why DLR wouldn't go onstage with velvet revolver. they sucked!but, in all fairness, Dave would have at least made is listenable. the band did okay. slash isn't a shredder and certainly isn't EVH. he's more of a blues-rock guy. so, i can't fault him when he jacked the intro to one of VH's easier songs. and I'll also cut him some slack that he didn't play 90% of the notes in the EVH solos. he just can't play like Eddie. not many can.
but WTF did they do to "Runaround"? that wasn't even the song. screaming "runaroundroundroundround" is NOT the song. it's almost like Scott was making fun of van halen. the band was really sloppy on it too.
i mean if you don't like the VH and aren't willing to properly rehearse the songs, why even induct the band and play their music.
yes, Dave's a tool and could have saved the day, but he might have dodged a bullet by not going onstage with velvet revolver.
i hope Eddie stays with rehab. they are one the bands that i never got to see. I'd like to see them if they have their shit together, but I'm not paying money to witness a train wreck.
Follow Ups:
i hope eddie stays i rehab as well....i saw them with sammy in the 90's, with gary cherone, and with sammy again on their last tour...the early 90s tour, particularly the F.U.C.K tour was unreal, some great shows. BUT... they didnt play anything from VH II or women and children first, or fair warning.....and the best songs on 1984 ( hot for teacher, top jimmy, etc )..
at least cherone would do the ones from those albums, so i got to see the band do them, and they were tight. eddie nailed them all....
then the last tour in 2004.... what a complete embarassment.... a blind monkey with gloves on could have played the tunes better than eddie. he always seemed like he was on either the wrong song, or if he was just fucking around..
funny thing is, i took a friend to the 2004 debacle, and he said it was the best show he had ever seen!!!! it really tells you how great they were.... this guy had seen metallica, g-n-r, and a bunch of other 90's acts, and i find it hard to believe that the 2004 versio of VH was better than those acts...
its sad, really......i dont know if i can trust them enough to shell out the dough to see them.....
bleep
no pun intended ;-)
the VH name while Eddie is in this crucial period." Good PR. DLR, Nice guy, I met him a few times.
