and it sucks. Each song has strange mechnical sounding nonsense, sorta like "Rockit". By Picadilly Station I sat Down and Wept" sounds like a good song, with a bunch of garbage added to make it sound "cool" I can see the A&R people insisting the producer ad noises and samples to make it "modern". "Easy" the worst example, a beautiful piano, Tracy's vocal, and then crazy computer generated noise. Sounds like the 80s.
Follow Ups:
Are you a fan at all of the more electronic Everything But The Girl albums, such as Walking Wounded?Just asking because if you're saying this particular electronic backing is bad but appreciate electronic music in general your comments mean something very different than if you enjoyed their acoustic period but dislike electronics getting into the music at all.
Hi Dui,Had the same reaction to it and I adore her voice(she still can't sing!). Very 80s, sort of Go West era and one track a dead ringer for New Order.
However, I listened again but assumed it was an 'old' 80s album and turned the volume up and that did the trick.
Try it again, play some New Order, Pet Shop Boys (Neil Tennant was involved somewhere in this album) and then give it a try.
It will keep us going until the new Cocteau Twins album comes out later this year.....hopefully.
cheers
ps.off to see Cowboy Junkies do an Acoustic set tonight...now there's a voice of an angel.
I assume that's a typo, she sings like a viola. She has the greatest female voice in rock since Laura Nyro, IMO.
Hi Dui,I meant she doesn't sing in that pure style , rather a unique northern way. Yes, she is still one of my favourites.
By the way Margo Timmins was phenomenal last night at the Union Chapel singing many songs from Trinity Sessions and Caution Horses and her new material or should I saw Cowboy Junkies material was very impressive. I've never heard those old tracks performed so well. Just Margo, Mike and , oh I forgot his name now, on mandolin and harmonica. I hope they issue another live album especially of these acoustic sets.
Enjoy

Other faves at the moment Patty Griffin, Amos Lee and Richard Hawley.
