I was listening to TV on the Radio and it started me thinking of songs that convey kind of simple intensity. My son (21) leans toward hardrock/metal (afi, etc), but has a new found love of TV on the Radio. In his words "they're intense, but simple at the same time".Genesis - Carpet Crawlers
TV on the Radio - The Wrong Way, Staring at the Sun
Guided By Voices - Best of Jill Hives.
Broken Social Scene - Looks just like the sun
Follow Ups:
Rid of Me - PJ Harvey
Atmosphere - Joy Division (come to think of it most anything by JD)
Down in the Tube Station at Midnight - The Jam
That's Entertainment - The Jam
The Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
Maggot Brain - Funkadelic
Baby's on Fire - Brian Eno
Five Years - Bowie
3rd Planet - Modest Mouse
The Tain -The Decemberists
Wake Up - The Arcade Fire
Add it Up
Southern Death Song
Never Tellby the Violent Femmes
also,
ny
Intense... camping... Village People...
meaning it sucks you in or is about something really sad and hard to deal with?sucks you in: reverberation (the 13th floor elevators), river song (dennis wilson), till i die (beach boys), paper tiger (beck), the slider (t.rex) and many more.
sad - forever (beach boys) - gets me every time. lyrically somewhat corny, but damned if the tears don't start welling up if you picture a close loved one when when listening to it.

...Tool disc.A friend put this on at his party and conversation ground to a halt.
or Helmet song. Nothing.
From Greetings From LA, these tracks sound less like performance and more like exorcism.
TB's voice is unearthly as he cats out his demons.
Never heard a recorded scream like it.
