I'm about half way through Ry Cooder's "My Name is Buddy", which comes out Tuesday, and wanting to find out more about the recording (since this advance promo has minimal info) went online and discovered...Buddy The Cat.Soon to be "immortalized" by this, another record by Ry Cooder, Buddy can be veiwed in the attached link with the specific photo that inspired these recordings...
"My Name is Buddy" is a return to early, acoustic, folksy, blooosy Cooder, and fans of his early-mid 70's output should be VERY pleased.
Great stuff, though overall I prefer "Chavez Ravine" as far as surrealistic Cooder concept recordings go...BTW: Cooder will be at Village Music on Saturday, March 10 signing copies of this new release. Village is in Mill Valley, Ca. and is a fantastic record shop dedicated to vinyl and American roots musics. I hear it's slated to close in September. Bummer... the place is an institution and cultural gem. (Kinda like Cooder!)

Follow Ups:
don't tell me they are closing.....that is a death knell bigger than Tower...We are dinosaurs and the comet is coming and the fat lady is on it singing at the tops of her lungs.
Well, I don't think this is the first time I've heard that JG might close up, but it seems likely this IS the last time. Mill Valley has become such a fucking upscale, gentrified bore that it really doesn't deserve Village Music anymore anyway, and his lease is up in September and you know the rent must be astronomical. Such a shame. I don't think I've actually bought anything there in 10-12 years, but it sure is a fine shrine to fantastic music. Goddard has been SO supportive of live music too, as you know...last time I saw him he looked like he could sleep a week and still wake up exhausted. The end of an era...the Fat Lady is too busy sheding tears to sing the bloooze...

Can't wait to hear another release from Cooder. I really like Boomers Story and Paradise at Lunch from the old Cooder material. Of course the collaborations with Ali Farka Toure and Buena Vista Social Club and the Indian guitarist Bhatt are outstanding as well. The guy can do no wrong.
