terrific southern writer that he is, and you let your little girl have a guitar and give her the basics....then ....then the next Lucinda Williams might have your name.....Until then we have Mason's kid who is a songwriter that is as good as they get and attracts sympathetic musicians to help her along....Jim Keltner, the world's finest session drummer just plays exactly right behind her on West, her new and super fine effort.
I strongly suggest that if you are not filled with emotion and joy from this CD that you see a doctor soonest....

but how could you connect her with Mason Williams?
________
"Occasionally we list eccentrically, all sense of balance gone."
The songs are stunning-I've never been able to embrace her vocal style. It's something I have a hard time putting my finger on, and all the more puzzling when you consider I'll gladly listen to Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Dwight Yoakam, Hank Williams, BB King, Keb Mo, et. al. for hours on end. None of these guys would possess what one would traditionally consider great pipes, but I love 'em all.Perhaps it's a male/female thing-my favorite female vocalists in that wonderful gumbo of country/alt country/pop/rock/blues/bluegrass that is American music where the lines are blissfully obliterated would include Emmylou Harris, Patty Loveless, Alison Krauss, Eva Cassidy, etc. All of these ladies could sing the phone book and sound beautiful doing it.
I know the Mason Williams reference was unintentional, but one of my favorite out of print LP's is Mason Williams-Hand Made. Has the original acoustic version of Classical Gas, and it still sounds warm and rich after dozens of plays.
for the past several decades, he's been a faithful son of Oregon.
A year or two ago, he was named Music Laureate of the Duck State.
I meant, of course, Miller Williams. Apologies to LW, you and the ducks.
