played by Tony Rice and Peter Rowan and just a stunning CD.....Quartet.
Yes, Peter is from Marin County and I get a Carrera S for mentioning that he has a CD out on Rounder.
Follow Ups:
Great sounding Martins.
Not sure of year but they sound great.

you're both right....I am gonna keep it anyway.

we should give up admit defeat and surrender out troops to the terrorists..........I disagree".Quite a tactic, and probably emanating from the same PR camp.
I guess. Lot of coincidences in your posts.
Perhaps I don't understand because I don't keep up day to day here, but what exactly are you accusing LWR of? Personally I was glad to hear about this CD.
Ken
He's possibly gone so far as to complain to the moderator trying to
get LWR banned for this imaginary crime. As far as I'm concerned,
LWR is an incredible asset to the rock forum: his taste is impeccable
and his knowledge is far reaching: I'll try anything he recommends.
If Duilawyer knew one percent of what LWR knows about music, he could
make a living from that knowledge. Why does Duilawyer do this?
I really don't know, but he certainly has no problem making a fool
out of himself, over and over. If I were moderator, I'd ban him.
Regards,
I've checked out several of LWR's recommendations and all have been great. Nothing wrong with recommending good material in your area or from friends.I've recommended friends of mine from Tempe, The Elliots, over the years because they are talented and make great music. The only thing I get is the satisfaction of turning people on to great music they might not otherwise hear. I don't know why anyone would object to that.
Besides, most musicians now have websites with samples of their music. You can check it out and if you don't like it, don't buy.

You are kind, thank you. After a lifetime of collecting, photographing and being in the music biz in various guises I did learn a thing or two.
I bring it here in the hope that I can assist others in pursuit of the grail.
And visa versa as I am still looking myself.
... then he's OK by me!It would seem that LWR is supposed to be the Godfather of the Bay Area, the way he keeps doing favours for musicians.
Now that is certainly a VERY reasonable explanation for things isn't it?
Well, I've not received your power of attorney yet. These things have
to flow you know. By the way, I don't deal with checks anymore: kilos
of hundred dollar bills, non-sequential serial numbers only, for me.
If you play your cards right, prosperity awaits,
You will notice that my photo is on each and every C-note. I print them up and the printing press is in the Bay Area. The entire economy...

As your loyal Texas/New Mexico minion, let me report that the oil
keeps flowing and there is no shortage of combustibles. Regards,
Yes, and LWR knows his Martin guitars too, so he's OK with me, heh heh.OK, whatever - the accusation seemed out of nowhere to me. Thanks for explaining anyway.
Ken
You know how much is in a kilo of Ben Franklin's? Beware when Rounder
records flexes its payola muscles backed by its vast resources. Soon
Peter Rowan will be a household name, his poster on teenage walls.
I'm in a pearls before swine sort of mood, so here are a few tunes
you might check out: Old and in the Way, "Land of the Navajo" and
Peter Rowan, "The Free Mexican Air Force." Next time you are in a
sweat lodge, try to keep from pissing on the hot rocks. Sincerely,
.
...both Rice and Rowan are extraordinary talents. I heard Bryn Davies, the bass player was leaving. They have the ability to be virtuosos, but remaining silky smooth and musical. With Tony Rice material, I like the mostly instrumental material. My favorite stuff of his is the stuff done with "The Unit", "Backwaters" being my favorite. Manzanita is also masterful. The collaborations with Norman Blake are quite good also. I know one of TR's Martins is a special collectible that was owned by someone famous, but it escapes me right now.
I also heard somewhere that TR has/had cancer. Is that true?
Ken
the guitar was owned by Clarence White!! Once of the Byrds and before that with his brother Roland in the Kentucky Colonels.....their landmark album ......Appalachian Swing....is a necessary addition to any fan of world class picking.
Nice to see these old guitars being played. Neil Young has Hank Williams old axe and plays it often (and well too). You can see it in the DVD Heart of Gold.
Followed your link - wow, what a collection of powerhouse musicians. Too many to list. This gives me a good idea for a vacation week in October. Thanks.
Ken
A gift from a nice billionaire. He loves Bluegrass and wishes to spread the joy. I have been to all of them and boy oh boy, I am up to my eyeballs in joy. Let me know if you are coming, I'll buy the pizza . I stay in the city on Saturday night and if I go to the pre-concert party I stay on Friday too. I'll let you know where you can get a room and we can meet up.....
Mark your calendar, it is the absolute best musical event in America....
Way beyond Bluegrass now.....
LWR, this sounds like my kind of fun, and what a wondeful city SF is. My fiance and I have been wanting to go to SF, and this event would help fill the week out nicely. She says she likes the idea. It would be fun to meet up should we decide to go and enjoy some live music and festivities. I'll let you know if we decide to go, but you'd have to let me call you something other than LWR, heh heh. Thanks for extending the hospitality :)
Ken
Tony's brother, Larry, passed away last year. Mesothelioma. Tony is certainly looking gaunt these days, but I've not heard any credible reports that he's ill. I sure hope he's not. He's a genius. His solo on Moonlight Midnight makes me want to never touch my guitar again.
I can't find anything on Tony. I thought I'd heard something when Tony was passing through Havre De Grace, MD last summer. Sorry to alarm anyone.
Ken
the version on the new album is the finest of the many I have heard him play...Tony is the finest accoustic guitar player in America....
