I recently purchased John Mayall's Jazz Blues Fusion. The musical performances and the recording quality are quite good. I already own the popular John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers w/ Eric Clapton (on DERAM). I also purchased John Mayall and friends "Along for the Ride" in SACD, which doesn't do anythng for me.Mayall's catalogue is quite extensive, and I'm sure there's a lot of good stuff in there. Can anyone recommend some of his material that is similar to his "Jazz Blues Fusion" release, or any of music of comparable quality. Thanks in advance...

Follow Ups:
Most like Jazz Blues Fusion is "Movin' On" which is the same band as JBF with the addition of a few more horn players and an upright bassist. It's a live disc and is excellent with guitarist Freddie Robinson picking up where he left off with JBF. The trouble is that I have it on vinyl and I don't ever recall seeing it reissued on CD. :( But it might be and, if not, you could probably find a used vinyl copy if you check out the vinyl shops. Most like the BB disc with Clapton is "A Hard Road" where Peter Green takes the place of EC. The new issue has some previously unissued tracks along with the entire EP of Mayall with Paul Butterfield. I don't think at this point Green was quite the equal of Clapton but I do think he surpassed him shortly thereafter.
The other two posters also mention "The Turning Point" and "Blues from Laurel Canyon" and while I don't think they're like the two you own, they are both excellent and worth owning. "The Blues Alone" is another great one (although different still) and even though the sonics are not good, I have a soft spot for the "Diary of a Band" discs. I can't exactly recommend them for a Mayall newbie, though. Pretty raw.
Thanks - Hard Road appeared to be a compilation, and I wasn't sure I wanted that. I ordered used remasters of "The Turning Point" and "Blues from Laurel Canyon". I appreciate the recommendations...

Hard Road was an original LP with the first 14 tracks of CD disc one. The rest of disc one is composed of one bonus track from the same session and the complete EP Mayall did with Paul Butterfield that I think is essential for fans of either guy.Disc Two actually IS a compilation but only from two discs so if you bought Hard Road, you could skip the discs "Through The Years" and "Looking Back" unless you were a completist. There's also a track that is previously unreleased.
I should also mention "Crusade" as a great Mayall disc in the tradition of the first Bluesbreakers disc but with a very young Mick Taylor on guitar. Excellent.
Thank you for the very excellent explanation of Mayall's discography. I really appreciate it...

Blues From Laurel Canyon and Bare Wires are two I really like
The band was drumless and featured acoustic guitar, flute and sax, with long Jazzy jams. I think it was his biggest seller, and was the toast of every smoky dorm room in 1969.
was the subtitle IIRC. With a bit of a chicka chicka.
The original poster owns Jazz Blues Fusion. On it a couple of drunks scream for the tune "Room To Move" which is on The Turning Point disc. It all connects! :)"Why did you come here - to hear an old record or something?"
Sounds like the type of jams I really go for. I just ordered the remastered version on CD. Thanks for the suggestion...
