A David Wiffen tune, done by both Boz Scaggs with Duane Allman and by Tom Rush with possibly the first backing with a dobro that ever alerted me to how their sound crawls up under my skin and festers. The song is a masterpiece of blues with feeling and Rush is an electric jolt singing it.
What I have it on, besides vinyl is a CD called The Very Best Of Tom Rush, No Regrets. A great overview of his stuff, it has the best version of Urge For Going (from Joni) I have ever heard. Just plain and simple music with ace backing....Bromberg on Dobro....Langhorne on guitar etc.
Acoustic folk for those who enjoy thinkers who sing.
Follow Ups:
Also recorded by the Cowboy Junkies, Roger McGuinn and even The Byrds (although their version wasn't released at the time).
Tut Taylor, 'Wabash Blues,' "Dobrolic Plectral Society," Takoma
Records. With Norman Blake and Sam Bush. Regards,
yippity....where'd I put my plastic......thanks
