er, make that Creedence Clearwater Revisited. In this incarnation, are they worth seeing/hearing?
Follow Ups:
band was great and he played every single CCR song and a few of his. Of course, CCR was the best, but they will not, cannot play again together. (since Tom's death) So, I see nothing wrong with a group playing the CCR hits - don't go if you don't want to.I have seen two Beatles "impersonators" Both were great and one was fabulous. It was just a lot of fun. I think if these types of bands stunk, they'd be out of business quite soon.
Like Moby Grape without Skip Spence.
more so than Fogarty does (at least in that Fillmore video/CD from a few years back), which is ironic and troubling, but not that surprising. Those guys are still at it for the love of the music AND to make a living. All they are really missing is Fogerty, sans his ego, though I feel HE (and the songs) are missing them more than vice versa. That rythm section captures those grooves and plays those licks with more soul, verve and feeling than ALL the L.A. professional hired hands that Fogarty can afford to buy, and remain true to the songs. They have every right to be playing those songs and keeping the spirit alive from one of the greatest bands ever. They were an integral part of the BAND that was CCR. They are neither a joke or a scam.

I have an article somewhere from a guy who opened for them with his band, an the concensus was it was Fogerty and 3 guys named Joe. "They hve every right" ? Their contributions were minimal, at best.
some jackass that you base this on? "Untalented sidemen"? You have ears on either side of that brain? They were a BAND for several years before CCR, and the fact they had a particularly gifted singer/songwriter in Fogarty that elevated them to greatness does not detract from that. Those original songs performed by anyone else would NOT be/sound the same with other musicians. Fogarty was brilliant, the others VERY talented. Listen to Fogarty's continually dissappointing LPs over the past 35 years for proof.

BTW, I saw them in person right when Bayou Country was peaking. There was Fogerty and some other guys. They were of little talent, and no import.
then, I think he always aspired to be Hank Williams...And if they were of little talent you think he'd want them on stage with him?
Have you seen Fogarty since then? Listened to any of his solo LPs?

Don't work. His current bands sound different, he is not finding musicians to simply recreate the early parts. I liked the real Creedence, But I know the difference between "I like that band" and "They're great musicians". Two different concepts.
In fact it's our show off the system DVD. Plays tons of songs HE wrote and a lot of his solo stuff. Miss his old sidemen? LOL. Hardly. I rather like his solo LPS I have. Centerfield, Eye Of The Zombie, the one with Almost Saturday Night. Even have his latest CD that's got one killer and a lot of filler. Much rather see him than some band covering his tunes. And that's what CCR is now, a cover band.

Doug Sahm used Clifford & Cook on one of albums and they are the stiffest rhythm section he ever recorded with.
Moby Grape is an entirely different story.

bleep
enough. He outgrew them.
Fogerty new stuff sounds like sissy music. No substance.Even his voice sounds less mature than it did in Creedence.
I think when they were a band that they all added their chops to make the CCR Sound. Doug Clifford is an excellent drummer, perfect for Fogerty's songs. That what made them great as CCR.
John Fogery was a highly talanted song writer, but those days seem gone.
John Fogerty cannot get in the creative world without his bandmates adding or subtracting what Fogerty has in his head.
Thats what bandmates of equal do for the creation process. Look at the Beatles, The Stones , the whole is better than the individual parts.
and his solo career was ALL based on the immense success of CCR. He never attained that level of popularity, nor IMO, musical vitality again. Coincidence? He may have outgrown them, but that has never been proved by his solo output or his commercial popularity ( for what that's worth)...

Exactly. Too many people dwell on "great musicianship" but I gotta say those CCR records sound mighty good, and a good chunck of folks agree who bought them. I coud list a slew of
"allright" players who made (and make) great records and as many great players who made drudge ( about 3/4 of George Benson's for example).
They were fine for what they were doing and what they were doing sounded great. I'll add that the same goes for The Beatles and The Stones and....
