Can anyone tell me who is singing the second song on the first side "Polly on the Shore" ?
Is it Dave Pegg ?
Anyone else like the album ? I like Gladys Leap better in this style of Fairport myself.
Follow Ups:
Dave Pegg is the writer/arranger of this tune. The lyrics were cowritten by Dave Swarbrick and the late Trevor Lucas. You should be aware that this piece has been recently recorded by the current Fairport lineup and will appear on their forthcoming studio release entitled Sense of Occasion, which is their 25th studio album by my count! 2007 marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of this wonderful institution. Dave Pegg (bass) is still in the band; he joined at the end of 1969 and appears on all but the first four releases. Lead vocals on this track were done by Simon Nicol (guitar) who sings in the same key as Trevor. Other band members are Ric Sanders (violin), Chris Leslie (violin, mandolin) and Gerry Conway (drums, perc).
With regard to the new Fairport studio release, "Sense of Occasion", there is also a new recording of the traditional song Tam Lin that initially appeared on the "Leige and Lief" album way back in 1969! New studio recordings of older pieces was something that Faiport also did on the XXXV studio release in 2002.
I think
You are correct, that was Trevor. He had a great voice.
when RT still had hair...
My memory is somewhat failing but please tell me the vocalist on the video "Now Be Thankful". Many thanks.
The lead vocalist was Dave Swarbrick who was the co-writer of this tune along with Richard Thompson. This piece was recorded by the current Fairport lineup in 2002 and appears on the studio album entitled XXXV. Chris Leslie sings lead with Dave Pegg and Simon Nicol contributing harmonies (as they did over 30 years earlier in this video).
Good morning Linkster, thank you for the name. I really enjoyed the video. Now to catch up on their music. A great band.
bought it in the discount rack at Camelot Records.
