Having said that, have you any evidence that any well-designed 'switchbox' causes any degredation? While I can imagine problems with some switching systems, I've also seen some designed clearly to open both ends of a cable, etc, including the ground conductors.
I've no idea if there was one made for commercial use.
As always, I do not suggest that it's easy to run a good DBT. It's not.

...have you any evidence that any well-designed 'switchbox' causes any degredation?Do you have any evidence that all evaluators use a "well designed switchbox"?
I would agree with Adi's approach.
And why would you ask such a ridiculous question.Take it case by case, and do it yourself. Homework isn't a such a bad thing.

Overall, I think we agree on this topic. I was merely suggesting that theory and practice are frequently not shared. What is a "properly designed" switchbox anyway?
> > What is a "properly designed" switchbox anyway?According to mtry at AR, amp, preamp, receiver or CD player can be designed to distort the signal and sound different. Therefore, by inference, everything else is properly designed and transparent when "operated within the specs".

Did anyone conduct a reliable DBT with the ABX box in the signal path and without--basically a DBT for the ABX box itself?
Use a variety of conditions that you know are at threshold. See what happens.

1. since ABX box is designed to be outside the human auditory thresholds, it need to be tested?
and/or
2. "control conditions" (for DBTs) is better than ABX methodology?
And see what happens.

JJ,Although, I havent done a ABX myself, I am fairly aware of its procedures.
I am a little lost about the precise message you are trying to convey.
