Kerr,What's most amazing is even though I say in print I believe the truth lies firmly between what both camps believe, I get responses like Pat D-Cakes above! Pat D-Cake and his type of objectivist want to act like I'm a lunatic-fringe subjectivist who believes if I flash the light of a flashlight on my speakers they'll sound brighter! When the reality it's people like him who represent the lunatic-fringe objectivists here on PHP who are constantly accusing anyone who hears something they don't or cannot, of fooling themselves or believing they have "super-hearing"
Yes Kerr I know Dr Linkwitz was talking about speakers. But that doesn't matter. What matters is he readily admits another person heard something he didn't and even more important he readily admits that even when it was pointed out it he still couldn't always hear what the other heard. That PROVES that sometimes one person can hear something another person cannot! That's extremely important to remember sometimes one person can hear something another person cannot! So when you or I tell Pat D-Cake of his band of cronies we hear something, it's quite possible that they won't hear it even if we tell them exactly what we are hearing. Even more important it means we can hear something and we aren't fooling ourselves or claiming to have "super-hearing" capabilities. However not having the character of a Dr Linkwitz type objectivist, Pat D-Cake and his type of objectivists cannot face the reality of this. So they would immediately accuse anyone who said they heard something they didn't of being a weak-minded audiophile who was fooling themselves, or claiming to have "super-hearing" abilities! Then most likely they'd demand proof of what this person heard via DBTs.
Dr Linkwitz reminds me of Roger Russell or Tom Danley, these are objectivists of character and integrity. These are objectivists I could perhaps learn something from, or perhaps even show something to. Too bad more of these type objectivists don't visit PHP. Sometimes I think they do, by Pat D-Cake and his type of objectivists most likely scare them away because they represent a type of objectivists these people don't want to be associated with. Thank GOD Tom Danley, Jneutron and those like them stay around at least. It gives me hope for that group...

I haven't tried the CD grinding thingy either. Too chicken. My advice is the same today as it always has been - never try anything that can't be undone!
TTG'54 --"That PROVES that sometimes one person can hear something another person cannot!"
I think I missed something. Did someone somewhere here claim that 'no one can hear something that someone else cannot'? If so, that's dumb beyond belief, there are deaf people and also people who can hear devil voices in their heads telling them to kill other people. But I've never seen anyone allude to a principle of identical hearing ability before (though I've not read every post). Who is it that said that, anyway??
